Post-Doctoral Research Fellowship at Duke University

Position Responsibilities : The successful candidate will be charged with the development of numerical methods for addressing transient interfacial mechanics within the context of coupled field phenomena. In particular, this project concerns the simulation of high-speed interaction between deformable solid materials and non-Newtonian fluids. The position is of a long-term nature and will involve participation in graduate student oversight as a senior member of the Duke Computational Mechanics Laboratory ( http://dcml.pratt.duke.edu/ ). Accordingly, applicants with a particular interest in high quality scholarship with an eye toward a future academic career are especially encouraged to apply. Funding for the positions is provided by the National Science Foundation and the Air Force Office of Scientific Research.

Qualifications : Applicants with knowledge and experience in the following areas are sought:

1. Ph. D. in mechanical engineering, or an engineering science discipline.

2. Strong knowledge of numerical methods and/or coupled field problems in nonlinear solid mechanics. Expertise in discontinuous Galerkin methods is welcome.

3. Programming in Fortran or C++.

Knowledge and/or familiarity with parallel computing environments will be viewed favorably.

Close Date : Applications accepted until position filled.

Candidates shoud apply by email to: Professor Tod Laursen (laursen@duke.edu) or Professor John Dolbow (jdolbow@duke.edu).
